Emergency 999 / 112: register the address emergency services are sent to
Register the installation address for your numbers so 999/112 operators know where to send help, and read the VoIP emergency-calling limitations.
Which plans include it
Included on every plan, including the Free Trial.
What it means
On VoIP, emergency operators are given the address you register — not your live location. This page is where you keep that address correct.
What it does
- Explains the limits of 999/112 over the internet.
- Records your acknowledgement of those limits.
- Registers a default address for all numbers, or an address per number.
- Adds optional what3words and notes for hard-to-find premises.
- Shows each address as Verified or Pending verification.
Every part of the page
- Important: VoIP 999/112 limitations
- Calls may not work in a power cut or internet outage — keep a charged mobile. Operators get your registered address, not your live location. If you call from somewhere else, tell the operator where you are.
- I understand & accept these limitations
- Records your acknowledgement with the date.
- Register Emergency Address
- Number (blank = all numbers), Full Name, Organisation, Address lines, City/Town, County, Postcode, Country, what3words (optional), Notes.
- Verified / Pending verification
- Our team checks each address.
How to use it
Register your address
- Read the limitations and press "I understand & accept these limitations".
- Press "Add Address".
- Leave the number blank to cover all numbers.
- Enter the full address and postcode. Add what3words for large sites.
- Save Address. It shows Pending verification until checked.
Examples
Register the right address
Your number is used at 13 High Street, Derby. Register that address so a 999 operator can send help there.
Working from home
If a user mostly works from home, register their home address for their number and remind them that a mobile is best for 999 if the internet is down.
Recommended settings
- ★Do this on day one, before anyone relies on the phones.
- ★Update it the day you move premises.
- ★Add a separate address for any number used at a different site.
- ★Always keep a mobile phone available for emergencies.
Abbreviations on this page
- 999 / 112 — UK emergency numbers
- Both reach the emergency services in the UK. Over VoIP the operator is given the address you register, not your live location.
- Example: Dial 999 or 112 from your Silux Call line and it reaches the emergency services; register your address so they know where to come.
- what3words — what3words address
- Three words that pinpoint a 3-metre square anywhere in the world — useful for large sites and rural premises.
- Example: A what3words address such as ///filled.count.soap pinpoints a 3 metre square, useful for rural premises.
- Ofcom — Office of Communications
- The UK telecoms regulator. Its rules cover 999 access, number porting and caller ID.
- Example: Ofcom sets the UK rules on number porting and emergency calls.
- VoIP — Voice over Internet Protocol
- Phone calls carried over an internet connection instead of a copper phone line. Every Silux Call line is VoIP, which is why it works anywhere you have internet.
- Example: Your 0161 number rings on your laptop in a hotel in Spain.
