Making & taking calls
Call Waiting: handle a second call while you are on the phone
Hear a tone when a second call arrives while you are busy, choose how many calls can wait, and what happens when the limit is reached.
Which plans include it
Included on every plan, including the Free Trial.
What it means
Call waiting lets a second caller hold for you instead of going straight to voicemail or engaged.
What it does
- Holds new incoming calls while you are on a call.
- Plays a beep so you know someone is waiting.
- Limits how many calls can wait.
- Chooses what happens when that limit is reached.
- Lets each user turn call waiting on or off for themselves.
Every part of the page
- Enable Call Waiting
- On: second calls are held. Off: they go to voicemail or busy.
- Call Waiting Tone
- A beep in your ear when a new call arrives.
- Max Waiting Calls
- How many can wait at once before the next caller gets the "full" treatment.
- When Queue is Full
- Send to voicemail, Return busy tone, Join call queue (if configured) or Forward to another number.
- Allow Per-User Override
- Users can switch call waiting on or off on their own extension.
How to use it
Switch between two calls
- When you hear the beep, press Hold on the softphone (or Flash on a desk phone).
- Answer the new call.
- Use Hold again to swap back.
Examples
Never miss the second call
While you are on a call, a beep tells you another caller is waiting. Put the first call on hold and take the second.
Limit it
Allow one waiting call; any more go to voicemail so callers are not left waiting a long time.
Recommended settings
- ★Max Waiting Calls: 1 for one person; use a Call Queue if you regularly get more.
- ★When full: Send to voicemail.
- ★Allow per-user override so people who hate interruptions can switch it off.

Yes — each call uses one of your account's concurrent calls, which is one per user you pay for. When none is free, the caller gets the "When Queue is Full" treatment.
