Emergency Calls & Registered Addresses

How 999 and 112 calls work on a VoIP line, and why your address matters.

This is a UK service. Emergency calls go to 999 and 112. There is no US-style E911 database — the equivalent obligation here is keeping an accurate registered address for each line.

Why the address matters

A traditional landline is tied to a physical wire, so the emergency operator knows where you are. A VoIP line is not: it works anywhere with internet. The address you register is what gets passed with an emergency call, so if it is wrong or stale, help can be sent to the wrong place.

Setting your address

  1. Go to Dashboard → Emergency
  2. Add the address where the line is physically used
  3. Accept the notice explaining the limitations of VoIP emergency calling
  4. Update it whenever you move, including temporarily

Limitations you must understand

  • Emergency calls will not work during a power cut or internet outage — keep a mobile as backup
  • If you take your softphone to another location, the registered address will be wrong unless you update it
  • The operator may not be able to call you back on the same number if your connection drops

We record your acceptance of these limitations against your account, because it matters both for your safety and for our regulatory obligations.
