Smart Answering Setup

Turning on the automated attendant and choosing what it handles.

Smart answering picks up calls automatically, holds a short conversation, takes details and can transfer to a person. Configure it in Dashboard → AI Receptionist.

Getting started

  1. Enable smart answering for your account
  2. Choose which numbers it should answer — you can start with one
  3. Set whether it answers every call, or only when nobody picks up
  4. Describe your business so it can answer basic questions correctly
  5. Set the transfer rules for when a human is needed

Start with out-of-hours only. It is far lower risk than putting it in front of every call on day one, and it tells you quickly how it handles your real callers.

What it can do

  • Greet the caller and identify why they are calling
  • Answer routine questions from the business details you provide
  • Take a message with the caller's name and number
  • Transfer to an extension or hunt group when the caller needs a person

Availability and cost

Smart answering is charged as a flat monthly add-on per account rather than per user. Usage is visible in your dashboard so you can see how many calls it handled.
